Witchscape is here!
I’m so excited to share that my first self published novel, Witchscape, A Southern Coven novel, is available now for preorder for Kindle and paperback on Amazon.
This novel was started two years ago, put down, and then last summer I picked it up again. I decided that I needed to get over my insecurities and move forward with my story. But what was holding me up?
Back in 2017, I had already started the first 10,000 words or so of this story when I was watching something forgettable and a commercial for a new series came on. It was for Midnight, Texas and it was from one of my favorite writers, Charlaine Harris. Well my mouth just about dropped open and I felt that it was already so close to what I was writing about (witches and other creatures in a small Texas town) that I gave up. There was no way there was room in this town for the both of us!
Well that was an immature and silly attitude to have. The reality was that if she was the creator, I didnt want to look like a copy cat type writer and make a fool of myself. Later on, I was in an authors groups when someone commented that there was room for everybody and even if the story sounded the same, there would be something different that would appeal to an audience.
And you know what? They’re right. There have been several instances in Hollywood when competing studios would put out almost IDENTICAL movies at the same time and everyone could chose what they wanted to see (Remember Armageddon and Deep Impact? Bugs Life and Antz?).
So I got back on it in the summer of 2019 and wrote like a madwoman for four months and finished the first week of November. I dithered around with editing and went into snooze mode from Thanksgiving until December 13th, when I handed it over to several beta readers and a content editor.
By January I was ready to go with my next step and choosing the cover was another personal obstacle. There are too many horror stories about how an author can damage the marketing of a book and the wrong cover is one of them.
But I’m done with all that and here we are. The first of a three book series. I hope you give it a chance, especially if you are a Kindle Unlimited subscriber.
Please comment below and come back for more updates on what’s new in the Southern Coven Series world!
